Event Info

Tampa, FL. –
Avant Garde, the young professionals group of the Tampa Museum of Art, is honored to present the January 2008 Art After Dark with Starbucks. The Museum is moving out of its main building at the start of 2008 and is relocating into an interim space while it builds a new facility slated for opening in mid-2009. Avant Garde has been given the opportunity to organize this very special Art After Dark with Starbucks, which will be the final affair to be held at the current Museum building before its scheduled closing and demolition. Titled retro|perspectives, the event will be a look back at the Museum's 30-year history since inception, and a look forward to its future plans, the new riverfront and developing regional artists.

As part of this special exhibition of both emerging and significantly established Tampa Bay artists, Avant Garde is providing a rare and special opportunity to the local art community. Avant Garde plans to have ten local artists work in both solo and collaborative efforts to create seven unique installations for this show. Installation art uses a variety of media in a sculptural way to modify the experience of particular space. A majority of these installations will be site-specific, as they will be designed to exist in the space for which they are created. These creative installations are expressive forms of art about demolition and reconstruction, which are truly fitting to celebrate this milestone of the Museum.
